• Protecting Yourself from Cyberattack All Antivirus software are only as good as the updates they offer you. If you have not updated your Antivirus software for a few weeks, it may have become vulnerable to the latest Trojan Virus circulating the Net. These viruses are designed to seek out all subscribers of that particular Antivirus software, looking for those computers that do not have the latest updates. There are even viruses that will run an "uninstall program" to uninstall your Antivirus software! And if you're using a " ' free' Antivirus program", do not count on it to provide you protection from the most current viruses circulating in cyberspace. It is precisely these programs that are targeted first by the Hackers. |
| Another form of cyberattack are the phony "Security/Antivirus Programs" and/or "Scans" that pop up continually while browsing the Internet. They *look like* the real thing; naturally they are not. They are designed to target the unsuspecting User by hoodwinking them into clicking on their advertisements. These claim to update the User's existing Antivirus software, or scan their computer for existing viruses. Instead the phony software loads mutliple viruses onto the User's Hard Drive and extracts sensitive personal information and data. It may also damage the integrity of the Hard Drive and other computer components. |
If you do nothing else, DO NOT click on ANY "notification" of "suspected virus attack" or "virus infection" that shows up on your screen while surfing the Intenet. These notifications, along with the many companies that you see advertising to speed up your computer or scan your Hard Drive for virus infections, are actually a source of virus attacks and infections. |

Today the security of your sensitive personal information and data, and the integrity of your Hard Drive and computer components depends on more than standard protection capabilities in use only a year or so ago. I can expand your Microsoft Windows™ PC's definitions of security threats to your Operating System, personal data, and Hardware. The preset default settings installed at the time of manufacture are years old and will not protect you today. Because cyber security is such an important part of my business, I constantly strive to stay up-to-date so I can tell you which Antivirus software on the market today will do the best job for you. If purchasing Antivirus software is not in your budget at this time, I will gladly recommend the best free Antivirus programs currently available. Because these free programs will not protect you from the most virulent virsues, I can also suggest additional security steps you can take to provide additional protection. |

For the Macintosh, Clam XAV is currently the best FREE Antivirus program I've found to-date. It will scan your incoming Email, as well as scan your entire Hard Drive. Paired with your Disk Utility software, and with diligent use (at least monthly if not more often), you can keep on top of pretty much any problems coming your way. (To see some screenshots of "Clam XAV" in operation, please Click Here.) |
